The tests are provided, supervised and analysed by Katalyst Laboratories.
Q: Who are Katalyst Laboratories?
Katalyst Laboratories are a government authorised distributor of SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing products. The tests on offer are Gold Standard PCR tests and Lateral Flow Tests.
Q: Who are the tests suitable for?
The test is suitable for anyone who needs a private COVID-19 PCR test for work or home, or a test for travel. This test is not suitable for anyone who has been in contact with someone known to have COVID-19 or anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19. For the latest guidance on all symptoms, please click here. Please do not book or attend an appointment if anyone in your household or bubble has symptoms of COVID-19 within the last 7 days. If you do have symptoms please follow government guidance and arrange a free NHS test.
If you are travelling, please ensure that you book the right test for your destination or your airline, and at the appropriate time before your flight’s departure.
Q: Which test do I need to book?
If the test is an airline requirement then please refer to your airline’s guidance on which test to book.
If the test is dependant on the country you are visiting and the guidance that they provide, then you must check the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office website for the latest travel information. Please ensure that you have checked the timeframes required to get a test within, to meet the government requirements.
It is your responsibility to book the required test and that you have all the necessary documentation and information before you travel.
If you are travelling please ensure when booking your test that you allow enough time for the results to be returned to you before you travel.
Q: What tests do you offer?
Same Day PCR Test is suitable for anyone who needs a private COVID-19 PCR test for work or home, or a test for travel, please refer to government guidance for latest advice. The test is a nasal swab test that is considered to be WHO Gold Standard for detecting even the smallest amounts of virus. This test typically returns results before midnight of the same day.
Next Day PCR Test is suitable for anyone who needs a private COVID-19 PCR test for work or home, or a test for travel , please refer to government guidance for latest advice. The test is a nasal swab test that is considered to be WHO Gold Standard for detecting even the smallest amounts of virus. This test typically returns results before midnight of the next day.
Rapid Lateral Flow Antigen Test is a test that is suitable for anyone who needs a private COVID-19 Lateral Flow test for work or home, or in a few instances a test for travel, please refer to government guidance for latest advice. It consists of a nasal swab and uses lateral flow technology, such as that used in home pregnancy testing. The test contains absorbent paper, which will change colour in the presence of COVID-19 antigens. It does not require testing in a laboratory, which means that results are available quickly. This test typically returns a result within 30 minutes of the swab.
Q: Do you offer day 2 and day 8 arrivals tests?
We do not currently offer testing for arrivals either day 2 or day 8.
Q: Who performs the test?
Upon attending your appointment, your swab will be supervised by a Katalyst Technician. To lessen the possibility of an inconclusive test result, please adhere to the guidance and requests of the technician.
Q: How do I book a test?
Simply choose the location and then click on “Book appointment” for the test that you need, fill in the details and pay for the test. IMPORTANT: If you are travelling, when booking, your name MUST be written exactly as it appears on your passport.
Once you have booked you will then be sent a confirmation email.
Occasionally a test may need to be re-run, therefore if you are travelling we strongly advise that you make a booking on the earliest possible date and time based on the requirements of your destination country or airline.
Q: How do I get my results and how long will it take?
Your results will be available by email or via an app and will normally be available within the following times:
- Lateral Flow Test – results normally within 30 minutes of the swab
- COVID-19 Same Day RT-PCR Test – results normally before midnight of the same day
- COVID-19 Next Day RT-PCR Test – results normally before midnight of the next day
In a small number of instances, a test may come back with an inconclusive result, if this occurs we may need you to book another test, in these instances the results will take longer to process. If you are travelling, we always recommend that you book your test as early as possible, but within your destination country’s stipulated accepted ‘test result to destination arrival’ timeframe, to allow for these exceptions. We are not responsible for any direct, indirect, or consequential loss incurred as a result of an inconclusive test result.
Q: What happens if I miss my appointment?
If you are late for your appointment we will try and accommodate your test as best we can, however, it may not be possible to do so at that time and you may need to re-book. If you are travelling re-booking may have consequences for your plans. We will not take any responsibility for the impact to travel if you are late for your booking.
Q: Can I cancel or amend my booking?
Yes, you can cancel your booking with 24 hours notice and receive a full refund. To cancel a booking simply click on the link contained in your booking confirmation. It is not possible to amend a booking. If you wish to book a new time please cancel the original booking and then book a new appointment. However, please be aware that this may not be possible if there are no appointments free at your chosen time.
Q: Can I book more than one person in one booking?
No it is not possible to book more than one person for one appointment. Should you require more than one appointment for a family travelling you will need to book an individual slot for each family member.
Q: What happens if I get a positive result?
If you receive a positive PCR test then you and your household should self-isolate, please check the government website for the latest guidelines.
We will notify the UK Public Health authority and NHS Test and Trace, who will contact you with further information.
You will need to contact your airline or travel agent to discuss your travel arrangements. It will not be possible to rebook another test.
Q: Will the COVID-19 vaccine cause my test result to be positive?
Having the COVID-19 vaccine will not cause your viral test to return a positive result.
Q: How long does the testing process take?
From meeting the host at the entrance of the fitness & wellbeing centre to having had your test will take approximately 15 minutes.
Q: What countries and airlines accept your tests as a valid certification?
As the situation is constantly changing we do not provide guidance with respect to airline and country requirements. It is therefore your sole responsibility to check your airline or country testing, timeline and documentation requirements. Additional information can be found on the government website for foreign travel advice.
Q: Can I get tested at the centre if I have not pre-booked a test?
At this time all tests need to be booked and paid for on the website in advance.
Q: What if I have not received a confirmation email?
If you have paid for a booking, and you haven’t received a booking confirmation within 30 minutes, then we suggest that you first check your Spam/Junk folder for the email.

Q: What documentation do I need to bring with me to the test?
If you are not travelling you will need to bring one form of ID either a passport, national ID card or photo driving licence.

- A copy of your booking email

Q: What are your health and safety measures?
Your health and safety is our number one priority. On arrival, please ensure that you wear a mask or face covering and sanitise your hands, there will be a hand sanitiser available for you. Regular cleaning will be performed throughout the day and additional cleaning takes place every night. All staff have had cleaning training and they’ll be using a two-stage cleaning process including a detergent, followed by a disinfectant.
We will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to our teams where necessary.
Q: Is Nuffield Health affiliated with the UK Government’s testing programme?
Nuffield Health is a DHSC (Department of Health & Social Care) approved private provider of COVID-19 screening services. We comply with all the government regulations with respect to submitting results to the relevant Public Health Authority.
Q: Does it hurt having the swab taken?
The tests performed require an anterior nasal swab only, so are less invasive. The swab test should not hurt but may feel a little uncomfortable.
Q: After testing positive can I immediately book another test?
If your test result is positive you must follow the latest government advice regarding self-isolation and will not be able to re-book another test. If you are travelling in a group or family who have tested negative, you should inform the group of your status and the fact that you are unable to fly at this time. If any other members of the group do not wish to fly as a result, they must inform the airline of their decision at the check-in desk.
Q: What does it mean if I have a positive result?
If you received a positive COVID-19 test result you must follow the latest government guidance regarding self-isolation. Click here for further guidance on self-isolation.
We will notify the UK Public Health authority and NHS Test and Trace, who will contact you with further information.
Q: What happens if I get a false or inconclusive result and the consequences of this?
A positive result indicates that the test has detected the presence of COVID-19 virus.
A negative result means that the test has not detected evidence of the COVID-19 virus.
Testing is a biological process and no testing regime for COVID-19 is 100% accurate in all cases. A negative result does not guarantee that the test subject is free of the COVID-19 virus, nor does a positive result guarantee that the test subject has active, infectious COVID-19.
Due to the nature of COVID testing, we can not guarantee results. The Katalyst Laboratories laboratory currently operates to a 0.01% inconclusive result level. In the unlikely scenario of an inconclusive test result, Katalyst Laboratories offers the customer a 100% refund.
If you test negative for COVID-19, you probably were not infected at the time your sample was collected. However, that does not mean you will not get sick. It is possible that you were very early in your infection when your sample was collected and that you could test positive later. You could also be exposed at a later point and then develop illness. In other words, a negative test result does not mean you won’t get sick later. This means you could still spread the virus.
All testing is conducted on this basis, neither Nuffield Health nor Katalyst Laboratories will accept liability for any personal consequences of this and will also not be liable to you for any losses, costs or damages that you suffer or incur as a result of receiving a positive test result (including, if you are unable to travel as a result of testing positive).
Q: I have previously had COVID-19 infection. Could I still test positive if I have a PCR test?
The remnants of the virus causing COVID-19 infection can be detected by PCR test for up to 90 days after infection. During this time you may get a positive result.
Q: Is it possible to get a positive result one day, and a negative result the next day, and the same vice versa?
Yes, this is normal due to the natural patterns of a virus, which are affected by timing.
Timelines differ by person, is dependent on strength of the immune system, and aggressiveness of infection. COVID-19 tests are designed to detect the presence of the COVID-19 virus in the subject’s system.
However in the immediate days of contracting the COVID-19 virus, the level of virus in the system may be so small that it is not detectable by any test, and this could lead to a negative result.
Additionally, after a person has contracted the virus, and their immune system has destroyed the infection, dead virus cells may still be present in the subject’s system and this may be detected by the test. The presence of dead Coronavirus cells may lead to occasional positive results until the body fully clears these cells (thought to be around 90 days).
In this way, an infected person may receive initially one result and then another over a small time period.
